Minecraft has over 800 block types! From dirt to diamond, each block has a purpose. Here are the essentials every miner should know.
The most common block. Found everywhere. Not pretty, but useful for building.
Dirt with grass on top. The icon of Minecraft. Spreads to nearby dirt.
Found underground. Smelt to get smooth stone. Essential for tools.
Rare and precious! Found deep underground (Y level -59 in new versions). Make the best tools.
The strongest material! Made from ancient debris + gold. Doesn't burn in lava.
Minecraft's electricity. Powers doors, farms, and crazy machines!
Your first goal: get wood. Punch a tree, make a crafting table, and craft a wooden pickaxe. Then mine stone for better tools.
Monsters spawn in the dark! Build a small shelter before nightfall. A 3x3 dirt hut works fine. Craft a bed from 3 wool + 3 planks to skip the night.
Never dig straight down! Use the "branch mining" technique: dig a main tunnel, then branches every 3 blocks. Bring torches, food, and a water bucket.
Diamonds spawn at Y level -59 in modern versions (1.18+). Bring an iron pickaxe or better — diamond ore won't drop with lower tools!
Build an obsidian portal (10 obsidian + flint & steel). Bring golden armor (piglins respect gold), food, and blocks. Don't hit zombie piglins!
Find a stronghold with eyes of ender, activate the End Portal, and defeat the Ender Dragon. Bring a bow, arrows, blocks, and water. Good luck!
